1066

It began with the death of Edward the Confessor king of England.  After the king's death people all over Europe flocked to claim the throne, three people in particular:
Harold Godwinson,

Wiliam of Normandy,

and Harold Hadrada.

Early in the year of 1066 William of Normandy made Harold Godwinson swear an oath over a saints bones that he would let him have the throne of England and Godwinson obliged.  But of course Godwinson was a liar and proceeded to defend England from Harold Hadrada at Stamford Bridge.

They fought.

But the battle was won by the English while Hadrada fell under the Raven flag from an arrow to the throat.

William of Normandy chose to invade directly after that when the English were at their weakest.  Godwinson prepared for battle at Hastings mustering all his forces for a final stand.

The battle was fierce.

But ended with an arrow to Godwinson's eye.

December 25 1066
William the conqueror marched into England, sat down, and put the kings crown on his head and the war for the throne was finally over.
