Heorot

Beowulf and Grendel is probably the most famous story from Britain in the middle ages.  You have probably all heard the tale of Beowulf, but if you haven't, let me tell it to you.  There was a young warrior named Beowulf who, as a boy, killed a Troll and grew up to become a Giant-slayer.  He was summoned by a king named Hrothgar to the great hall of Heorot, which was being plagued by a terrible monster named Grendel every night.
Beowulf gathered the bravest warriors with him and they set out for Heorot but their ship was attacked by five Sea Serpents.  Beowulf killed the Sea Serpents and he and his warriors continued upon their journey.  When Beowulf reached Heorot, he was greeted warmly by king Hrothgar.
Beowulf and his men had a merry dinner that night with King Hrothgar.  When the feast was finished, Beowulf and his warriors lay on the floor in wait for the beast.
Grendel opened up the door to Heorot without so much as a noise.  As soon as the monster was inside, it picked up the nearest warrior and ate him whole. Beowulf was up upon the beast in a flash and had grappled his arm.
Grendel struggled and struggled but it was no use; Beowulf was too strong. The monster had finally met his match.  In one last desperate attempt to get free, Grendel heaved. There was ripping noise and then Grendel came free, well, almost all of him; Beowulf still had his arm.  The beast looked down in horror at the place where one of his limbs used to be, then let out a roar so painful it made the earth shudder.
Grendel ran off and was never seen again save for a trail of blood leading from Heorot down into a deep dark pool in the swamps.
And that is the story of the Mighty Warrior Beowulf and how he defeated Grendel.
